August 202330 August 2023 Wait! What? August is almost over already, and typical of me, no updates to the website done. So, with the pruning at Ducketts Mill Wines done for another year we said our farewells and hit the road. Kind of strange to be moving again, but kind of nice. We took a drive through the Stirling Ranges, camped at a favourite spot overlooking the ranges and meandered our way up towards Perth for a visit to family. Family and friends visits and a storage unit clean out done we took off out on to the open road again, heading off to find some drier and warmer weather, and of course some orchid hunting areas for Joanne to explore. Stopping for a few nights at a favourite spot at Jarrahdale and then onto Wundowie, a spot we haven't stayed at before. What a cracker of a camp it is too! The first of our two nights was fairly quiet with us and two others in, one being a large 5th wheeler, so happy hour was centered around our rigs. The second night well, the place was full to overflowing with a number of rigs parking on the grassy overflow area, and happy hour at Trevor and Liz's rig was equally as large, and it went for a number of hours, and time spent with some great people, including Jean who we knew from Denmark here in WA. Not wanting to overstay our welcome and the time limit, we moved on this morning, and are now camped at the Northam RV park, and so far, it is looking like another great camping spot. It's behind the swimming pool and next to the Avon River. Plenty of shady trees, almost level sites and despite being almost full, it is nice and quiet. Leaving Northam we made our way to a favourite camp at Ninan Lake near Wongan hills, and endured some nice then very ordinary weather. During the rain was a great time to try some storm/weather/abstract photography at sunset. Standing behind a small bush and grabbing shots between wind gusts and small rain squalls was an interesting idea, but, I think it turned out okay.
Sunset Storm in Abstract (intentional camera movement) form. So after a stormy sunset it was time to head back into town and stay awhile at the free rv camp for a few more days. After all, we are taking it slow until it is harvest time in October. Mark Twain once said "...years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do that by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - and so we will. |
